Title
Discuss the Active Transportation Plan and upcoming public input opportunities
Body
BACKGROUND:
The Sustainability Plan has a goal to reduce single occupancy vehicle (SOV) trips in order to lessen traffic congestion and air pollution. On June 6, 2023 the City Council approved a resolution to allow staff to enter a contract with Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc. for the development of an Active Transportation Plan. The Active Transportation Plan addresses mobility outside the use of a vehicle and will provide a list of infrastructure improvements to make walking and cycling convenient and safe throughout the city. This Plan will be an update to the 2015 Trail Master Plan.
The completion of the Plan will help address the following recommended actions from the Sustainability Plan:
• Increasing the mileage of trails, sidewalks, and bike lanes
• Adopting a complete streets policy
• Increasing convenient access to transit
The city is seeking public input from stakeholders and residents through a variety of methods including a community input event, survey, and input from boards and commissions. The plan will also utilize the public comments on mobility that were compiled during the creation of the Comprehensive Plan.
The Sustainability Committee will have the opportunity to provide their feedback on their priorities and the locations of infrastructure improvements.
