Title
Receive a report regarding the Public Works Capital Improvement Program.
Body
BACKGROUND:
Capital improvements are a comprehensive program for improving vehicular and non-vehicular transportation infrastructure, water and wastewater infrastructure, and stormwater conveyance infrastructure. Capital improvement projects include items such as water or sewer line replacements, street improvements, new sidewalks, and increasing stormwater pipe size. Planning and budgeting for CIP projects is critical for cities to maintain basic city services. The improvements help ensure public health and safety for residents, visitors, businesses, and industries. They also provide or improve access to businesses, which strengthens economic growth. Finally, they provide recreational and alternative transportation options for people to get around Farmers Branch.
Staff will provide an overview of ongoing projects and proposed project types for the upcoming fiscal year. The goal is to provide the City Council with recommendations for the upcoming fiscal year as staff continues preparing the budget for the Council’s consideration. The presentation will cover water, sewer, stormwater, street, and trail or pedestrian infrastructure projects to be performed or managed by the Public Works Department.
