Consider accepting a $75,717 funding request from the Metrocrest Hospital Authority for the Farmers Branch Fire Department to purchase four (4) Stryker Xpedition-powered stair chairs.

Body
BACKGROUND:
In February 2024, the Farmers Branch Fire Department applied for a funding request from Metrocrest Hospital Authority in the amount of $75,717 to purchase four (4) Stryker Xpedition powered stair chairs.

DISCUSSION:
The Farmers Branch Fire Department is seeking funding to assist with the replacement cost of four (4) manual stair chairs that assist with emergency responders' ability to assist patients and/or caregivers downstairs or on elevated terrain. The current model and age of the stair chair used in our fleet range between 9 and 21 years old. Our goal with funding is to upgrade to the latest technology offered for powered stair chairs. New powered stairchairs will assist with moving patients down steep staircases. This will provide increased comfort and security for our employees and the patient. This new technology will decrease the likelihood of injuries occurring to responders and patients, specifically by reducing the chance of the patient tilting back or tipping over when maneuvering downstairs or on terrain. The chair also has a power track to alleviate caregiver injury or fatigue. Utilizing the modern chairs will provide responders with the ability to navigate a variety of terrains and environments. These chairs are designed to help prevent damage to staircases while easily maneuvering over obstacles.

Farmers Branch Fire Department submitted a funding request to Metrocrest Hospital Authority to purchase four (4) new manual chairs to replace our existing fleet. By implementing new chairs into our fleet, we will be able to better serve the community and stay up to date on emerging technologies in the emergency response field. This funding request for the proposed project would cover the purchase cost of four (4) new chairs.
