Title
Consider approving Resolution No. 2024-111 authorizing the City Manager to purchase a K-9 Unit Vehicle with Reliable Chevrolet and the equipment package from Defender Supply through an Interlocal Cooperative Purchasing Agreement for the Police Department; and take appropriate action.
Body
BACKGROUND:
The Police Department has only one K-9 vehicle, a 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe purchased for $41,915. Over its lifetime, the vehicle has had substantial repair and maintenance in the amount of $57,554. Currently, this is the only K-9 vehicle, so when this vehicle is in for repair or maintenance, the K-9 unit is not in service.
DISCUSSION:
The City of Farmers Branch requested quotations from the Purchasing Cooperative. City Administration evaluated the quotations to meet specifications and desires to award the purchase of the K-9 Vehicle to Reliable Chevrolet and the equipment package to Defender Supply.
The Purchasing Cooperative contract is a piggyback on Tarrant County which benefits the City of Farmers Branch with lower prices through economies of scale of a larger government consumer on standardized products/services. To do a formal advertised bid, it would delay ordering by another month for a necessary K-9 vehicle.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Budgeted Financial Impact $85,936.28
DISTRICT:
Citywide
POSSIBLE COUNCIL ACTION:
1. I move to approve Resolution No. 2024-111 as presented.
2. I move to approve Resolution No. 2024-111, with modifications.
3. I move to table the issue for further study or take no action.
