BACKGROUND:
The Public Works Department uses bucket trucks to lift workers for utility work, building maintenance, tree trimming, sign installation, and maintenance. The FY 2023-24 Fixed Asset Fund includes $185,000 for purchasing one new Ford F550 Bucket Truck for Park Maintenance. The remaining amount will be absorbed from the Fleet Contingency fund. This purchase will replace unit 27014, a 2006 Ford F450 Bucket Truck that is currently inoperable and has reached its end of life.
DISCUSSION:
The City of Farmers Branch requested quotations from two vendors off the Houston-Galveston Area Council Cooperative Purchasing Program and received one response. Staff evaluated the quotation to meet specifications and desired to award the purchase of the new Ford F550 Bucket Truck to Sewell Ford of Odessa.
Unit 27014 is currently inoperable, and a repair is estimated at $20,000. Public Works is renting a truck so that daily operations are not interrupted. If we are not able to purchase a replacement truck, we will need to continue to rent at a premium or spend $20,000 to repair it, bringing the total service costs on the 18-year-old vehicle to $137,552.
The FY 2023-24 budget amount for the vehicle is $185,000. The quotation for the new Ford F550 Bucket Truck came in at $187,569. The remaining balance of $2,569 will be funded from the Fleet Contingency Fund.

Budgeted Financial Impact: $185,000 from the Fixed Asset Fund; $2,569 from the Fleet Contingency Fund.
