BACKGROUND:
The City of Farmers Branch currently has an ISO 1 classification. Every five years, the City must be reevaluated. The Insurance Services Office (ISO) recently surveyed the City of Farmers Branch and submitted a recommendation about the City of Farmers Branch Public Protection Classification (PPC) to the State Fire Marshal’s Office. ISO collects and evaluates information from communities on their structure fire suppression capabilities. The data is analyzed using ISO’s Fire Suppression Rating Schedule (FSRS), and then a PPC grade is assigned, which is a number from 1 to 10. Class 1 represents an exemplary fire suppression program. A community’s PPC grade depends on emergency communications, fire department, needed fire flows, and water supply.
Chuck Allen, Assistant State Fire Marshal with the State Fire Marshal’s Office, will recognize the Farmers Branch’s ISO Class 1 Public Protection Classification. Nationwide, 498 ISO Class 1 cities and 96 Class 1 communities exist in Texas. The classification of a Class 1 PPC will renew on December 1, 2024.
