Discuss impervious surface and tree canopy data

BACKGROUND:
At the August 14, 2024 meeting, the committee received a presentation on urban heat issues. The replacement of natural landscapes with concrete and building materials in cities exacerbates heat issues. The city’s Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Administrator has compiled data and maps which show the total tree canopy and impervious surface coverage within the city.
Staff will provide an overview of this data and committee members will have the opportunity to discuss implications and areas for future action.
