BACKGROUND:
To reduce the amount of space consumed at Camelot Landfill, the City diverts clean brush to a wood waste processing facility. This best management practice helps extend the overall life of the landfill. The processing facility converts the vegetation into compost and/or mulch. The City sought competitive bids to divert clean brush material to meet this objective. The bid specified that the facility must be a registered or permitted processing facility within 15 miles of the City of Farmers Branch. This is the same travel distance to Camelot Landfill from City Hall. This distance requirement helps staff maintain equipment and service levels to complete the daily routes for our residents. The bid requested unit pricing for two different-sized containers: 30 cubic yards and 40 cubic yards.
DISCUSSION:
The City received one bid from the LETCO Group, LLC. The pricing is for one year. The unit price for a 40-cubic-yard container is $200 per trip, and for a 30-cubic-yard container, it is $150 per trip. The staff estimates that it will collect 20,000 cubic yards of clean brush.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The approved FY 2024-2025 budget includes $65,000 for brush diversion.
