Body
REQUESTOR:
Finance, Fleet, and Facilities
BACKGROUND:
The Parks and Recreation Department has requested a 2025 Ford Transit Van to transport customers and staff to events and camps. The new van will increase passenger capacity from seven to 15 and does not require a CDL license for the driver.
Staff is requesting to replace a 2007 Ford E150 van that has been in service for 17.5 years and has 42,000 miles. The life expectancy for this type of vehicle is 10 years. The vehicle is being replaced due to its age and condition and to increase the number of passengers that can be transported.
DISCUSSION:
The replacement van (15 passengers, no CDL required) will support all parks and recreation programs and activities. Staff currently supports offsite programming transporting campers for the year-round youth programs at the Recreation Center and adults for programs at the Branch Connection. The vehicles also provide staff transportation for picking up/moving supplies and transporting staff to programs and activities. Other departments also have access to the bus and vans for use if needed to transport staff/supplies. These vehicles can also serve the public if needed for emergency management events by transporting citizens and supplies.
The BuyBoard purchasing cooperative was used to reduce fleet staff time and take advantage of existing bids from government entities.
Rush Truck and Sam Pack Ford were asked to provide quotes for the vehicles. Sam Pack was the best value of the two. The purchase of these replacement trucks allows for the scheduled replacement of an aging vehicle. The FY 2024-25 budget amount for the vehicle is $80,000. The quote for the new Ford Transit 15-passenger Van came in at $66,092.88.
