Title
Discuss the proposed Dutch Village Park playground replacement and park improvements.
Body
REQUESTOR:
Parks and Recreation Department
BACKGROUND:
On January 21, 2024, the Dutch Village Park Playground was damaged in a fire. The fire severely damaged the playground equipment, necessitating its removal from the site. Staff commissioned The PlayWell Group, Inc. to design and provide cost estimates for a new playground system to replace the damaged equipment. Conceptual renderings were drafted and presented to the Parks and Recreation Board on August 24, 2024. During this meeting, a request for public outreach was made.
DISCUSSION:
Staff has since initiated a public outreach program to gather feedback on the park design and to seek additional input on potential amenities not included in the conceptual renderings.
The public outreach program began on November 21, 2024, with the mailing of notices in both Spanish and English to 426 residents. The letter included an invitation to complete a survey (available in English and Spanish) and attend a public outreach meeting on December 9, 2024, at the Parks and Recreation Center. A total of 110 residents took the survey.
Staff is seeking the next steps for the playground system. The total cost for elements and installation is projected to be $634,175. The cost will be covered by a combination of insurance reimbursement and Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) Funds. An information memorandum outlining survey questions and results, as well as pricing for equipment, is included with this item.
