INTRODUCTION BY THE MAYOR:
On behalf of the City of Farmers Branch City Council, I am honored to recognize and present this ceremonial item to the Farmers Branch Historical Park for the 2024 Excellence in Programming Recreations/Aquatics Award.
BACKGROUND:
The Historical Park received the Excellence in Programming Award for their sold-out, waitlist-only Charcuterie Board Class, held twice a year, in May, focusing on summer entertaining and in November, focusing on the holidays. This class was created and led by self-taught staff members in response to a recognized need for engaging adult-only programming that not only generated revenue but also provided educational and enjoyable experiences. The class consists of a history of charcuterie, a board slide show, a charcuterie supplies display, and a hands-on demonstration. Attendees then create their own edible masterpiece. Staff identified a gap in the market for creative, hands-on activities tailored for adults that combined nurturing creativity with social interaction. By focusing on charcuterie, a popular and visually appealing culinary trend, the program sought to attract participants looking for both practical skills and a pleasurable social event while also contributing to the Historical Park’s revenue goals, filling a niche for both educational and profitable programming.
