Title
Discuss Events Committee.
Body
REQUESTOR:
Mayor Pro Tem Omar Roman
BACKGROUND:
At the November 12, 2024, City Council meeting, the Council discussed events and the formation of a subcommittee of the Arts and Culture Committee to specifically assist staff in preparing for the upcoming Gateway to the Globe event. The subcommittee provided the most efficient path to allow residents' voices to be heard by not having to establish a Multi-Cultural stand-alone Committee as was done in 2023.
DISCUSSION:
During the City Council discussion in November 2024, Mayor Pro Tem Roman also discussed the potential formation of a group of residents that could review special events and provide feedback to the City Council on the events to assist the Council with the Strategic Planning process. The duties of this group, noted by Mayor Pro Tem Roman, would be similar to those of the members of a City near Farmers Branch. After additional research was conducted, the member duties for the City of Dallas Arts and Culture Advisory Commission were found to be similar to the duties described by Mayor Pro Tem Roman and the current purpose of the Arts and Culture Committee. City staff seeks direction from the City Council on the next steps regarding having the Arts and Culture Subcommittee that is currently working on the Gateway to the Globe event remain as the group tasked with these duties or a new stand-alone committee or commission be formed.
