BACKGROUND:
In 2024, the City awarded Falkenberg Construction Company a construction contract to remodel the Justice Center, including the breakroom, criminal investigation division area, patrol area, locker room/restrooms, evidence room, briefing/training area, records/storage, volunteer area, and administration area. Change Order No. 1 was for miscellaneous purchases for the break room and was approved administratively on November 21, 2024.
We are requesting approval of Change Order No. 2, which adds scope for the remodel of the detention center and network cabling.
DISCUSSION:
The detention center has not been renovated since the original opening of the building and is currently in need of a remodel. The ceilings are rusted, the lighting is dim and yellow, and the floors are worn. The check-in holding desk is too small for current operations. Quorum Architects, the architect of record for the Justice Center remodeling project, provided drawings for the renovation of the detention center. Falkenburg Construction Company provided a quote for the detention center remodel. A change order can be issued to Falkenberg Construction Company due to the total change order of $423,247.30 falling within the 25% threshold for issuing a change order under the current purchase order amount of $1,740,420.76. As was discussed with the City Council during the November 12, 2024, study session, the total project budget is currently $3,625,000.00.
