Title

Discuss the community garden.

Body

BACKGROUND:

The current fiscal year budget supports the transition of the Community Garden to a non-profit, per City Council Direction given in 2024. Staff is working with the current group of gardeners to transition the garden. The current support for the garden consists of continuing regular operations from City staff, assisting with the registration of plots by the gardeners, and monthly communications (monthly meetings and email information).

Staff met with the garden leadership on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, to discuss transition plans and current operations. Garden leadership let staff know that they are continuing to pursue a transition, but the process is moving slower than expected. Staff will communicate these concerns with management in preparation of the City Council strategic planning in late February. During this transition process, Parks and Recreation staff will continue open communications with the garden leadership and participants.
