Title

Consider approving Resolution No. 2024-138 authorizing the purchase of two new 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning pickup trucks and a 2024 Ford F-250 pickup truck from Rush Truck Center through the Texas Local Government Purchasing Cooperative BuyBoard in the amount of $185,554.55; and take appropriate action.

Body

REQUESTOR:

Finance, Fleet, and Facilities Department

BACKGROUND:

The purchase of two Ford F-150 Lightning pickup trucks and a Ford F-250 pickup truck is being requested. The first F-150 pickup truck replaces unit 31004, a 2012 Chevy Impala for the Police Department. The current vehicle has 83,130 miles and is being replaced due to age and mileage. This vehicle is used by detectives in the Criminal Investigation Division.

The second F-150 pickup truck is a new vehicle for Public Works that was approved in the FY 2023-24 budget. This vehicle is needed for the Construction Inspector Manager, a position that was reclassified from a maintenance worker position in FY 2023-24. The Construction Inspector Manager is primarily a field position that visits construction sites across the city on a daily basis to inspect the work. The truck serves as the employee’s mobile office for most of the day.

The F-250 pickup truck will replace unit 19004, a 2013 Chevy Silverado, with a kennel box for Animal Services. The current vehicle has 80,000 miles and is being replaced due to age and mileage.

DISCUSSION:

The BuyBoard purchasing cooperative was used to reduce fleet staff time and take advantage of existing bids from government entities.

The purchase of the replacement F-150 electric trucks will reduce air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. This aligns with the goals of the Sustainability Plan and the region’s initiatives to attain National Ambient Air Quality Standards. It will also allow the City to pilot the functionality of an electric, light-duty truck as this vehicle type makes up a considerable portion of the fleet. Therefore, further electrification of this vehicle type has significant sustainability benefits. Additionally, there are cost savings over the lifetime of the truck. A comparable truck’s fuel cost last year was $2,100. We estimate electricity costs for the vehicle to be $500/year. For the 10-year life of the vehicle we expect to have a savings of $15,000.

The new F-250 truck will be outfitted with an air-conditioned kennel box and emergency lighting for the safety of the officers.
