Consider approving Resolution No. 2013-048 authorizing the City Manager to execute a contract with Midwest Wrecking Company of Texas, Inc. in the amount of $53,840 to provide demolition services for the Don Showman Pool and skate park and take appropriate action.

BACKGROUND:
Demolition of the Don Showman Pool and skate park is necessary to begin construction of the new municipal aquatics facility.  The area consisting of the present Don Showman Pool, the skate park, and a small playground will be the footprint for the new aquatics facility.
 
DISCUSSION:
City Administration received three bids, which were then reviewed by Gallagher Construction Management Services (Gallagher), to demolish the Don Showman Pool and skate park (the base bid) and provide asbestos abatement services if necessary (Alternate 1).  The majority of asbestos testing has been done however the balance cannot be completed until the pool is closed.  At this time, City Administration does not recommend awarding Alternate 1.  In the unlikely event that further testing proves that asbestos abatement is necessary, City Administration will solicit pricing through a quote process.
 
RECOMMENDATION:
City Administration recommends approving Resolution No. 2013-048 authorizing the City Manager to execute a contract with Midwest Wrecking Company of Texas, Inc. to provide demolition services for the Don Showman Pool and skate park.  
 
ACTIONS:
  1. Motion to approve Resolution No. 2013-048 authorizing the City Manager to execute a contract with Midwest Wrecking Company of Texas, Inc. to provide demolition services for the Don Showman Pool and skate park in the amount of $53,840.
  2. Motion to deny Resolution No. 2013-048 authorizing the City Manager to execute a contract with Midwest Wrecking Company of Texas, Inc. to provide demolition services for the Don Showman Pool and skate park in the amount of $53,840.
  3. Motion to modify to meet the needs of the Council.
  4. Motion to table the issue for further study or take no action.
