BACKGROUND:

 

Dutch Village Park Playground rehabilitation update

Project:  Replacement of the fire damaged playground at Dutch Village Park

Current Status:  Staff continues to work with the City’s Risk Manager and the City’s insurance carrier on the incident. Staff will soon be disassembling the playground and keeping parts that can be reused. Staff will then start to prep the site for a new playground. Staff is working with playground vendor on some designs that will be brought to the Board for review.

Estimated completion date:  Fall 2024

 

John F. Burke Nature Preserve

Project:  Enhancement of the nature preserve pathway and lookouts.

Current Status:  Preserve is open. Staff continues to work with vendor on the septic system installation. Recent wet weather has prevented the vendor from completing the work. All TCEQ and Dallas County permitting has been completed. Opening restroom still TBD.

Estimated completion of restroom facility: Spring 2024.

 

Joya at Oran Good Park

Project: Build a one-of-kind signature park.

Current Status:  Staff is communicating any issues or concerns to the installer and Kompan. Staff recently met with Kompan representatives on site to discuss pending repair items. Items such as the zipline are being reviewed by the vendor to provide the best solutions for safety improvements. Parks and Recreation staff continue to monitor usage of the park on weekends. Staff will review some infrastructure improvements with the City Council on May 7. The improvements include fencing, security cameras, network connectivity, security lighting, and a shade structure for the entrance area.  

 

Venue 1842 (Event Center at Historical Park)

Project:  Indoor venue to host weddings, rentals, corporate events, historical

programs, etc.

Current Status:  Construction is almost completed. Staff is working on Certificate of Occupancy items that need to be addressed with the contractor. Reservations for May and June are being moved or cancelled due to contractor delays. Possible building dedication and final opening is TBD. 

Estimated completion date:  Summer 2024

 

The Branch Connection

Project:  Interior renovation, enhancements of aesthetics, reallocating space, new

features.

Current Status:  PARD staff are working with the contractor and architect on a regular basis to complete Phase 1 construction. The project is progressing smoothly and is on budget. TBC activities and programs will be moving to First Baptist Church Farmers Branch for the summer months to accommodate summer camps at the FB Community Recreation Center. 

 

Mercer Park

Project:  Park in the Mercer Crossing neighborhood.

Current Status:  Parks staff is working with the developer on items needed to be completed as part of the site development i.e. trails, grading, and tree installation. Staff continues to meet with the developer on a weekly basis to ensure and check on their progress. Staff is also reviewing proposals for consultants to complete the final designs and construction documents for the City portion of the park. Final designs will be reviewed by the Board at a future meeting. 

Estimated completion date:  Late 2024

 

Squire Park

Project:  Renovation including enhanced features and addition a splash pad.

Current Status:  Staff is reviewing proposals for consultants to produce the final designs and construction documents for the park. Final designs will be reviewed by the Board at a future meeting.
