BACKGROUND:
Commercial façade grant programs are an important economic development tool that help strengthen the appearance, vitality, and long-term competitiveness of the City’s commercial areas. By providing financial assistance for exterior improvements, these programs encourage property owners and businesses to reinvest in aging or underutilized properties, enhance the overall appearance of commercial corridors, and create more attractive environments for residents, visitors, and potential customers. These investments can also serve as a catalyst for additional private investment, support business retention and recruitment, and contribute to the continued revitalization of key commercial areas throughout the City.
In 2012, the City developed and funded a Commercial Facade Revitalization Program (Program) to encourage property owners to enhance the publicly visible areas of their buildings. The Program is structured as a single-payment reimbursement to property owners, per building or business. Facade grants are available with a minimum project value of $2,000 and a maximum reimbursement of $50,000 per grant, unless otherwise approved by the City Council.
DISCUSSION:
Tracy Jackson, the owner of AlphaHouse Enterprises, LLC, has applied for the Commercial Facade Revitalization Grant for the property at 4300 Alpha Road, Suite 210. The proposed improvements include adding a marquee sign, monument sign, and vinyl wrap; installing a temporary window wrap; relocating the current Native signage from 4319 Alpha to 4300 Alpha Road; and adding courtyard lighting. The facade-only portion of the project is expected to cost approximately $57,123. The adjusted grant request for this project is $28,561.
Approval of Resolution No. 2026-129 would approve the façade grant in the amount of $28,561.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The Fiscal Year 2026-27 operating budget includes funds for the Façade Grant program.
