BACKGROUND:

The Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention Authority (MVCPA) is a State agency under the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles that provides grants to local law enforcement agencies to combat motor vehicle theft, burglary from a motor vehicle, and fraud-related motor vehicle crime.

In April of 2026, the City Council approved the submission of a grant application and agreement with the Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention Authority under the Task Force Grant Program. For Fiscal Year 2027, the City of Farmers Branch was awarded $240,000 in MVCPA funding toward a $385,000 Task Force Grant project. The grant requires a total local match of $60,000.

The City of Farmers Branch and the City of Carrollton jointly participate in the Carrollton-Farmers Branch Auto Theft Task Force. Through this partnership, the participating cities can coordinate resources, personnel, and investigative efforts to more effectively combat auto theft and strengthen public safety in both communities.
