BACKGROUND:
The City of Farmers Branch established the Senior Advisory Board to serve as a liaison between the senior community and City leadership. The Board plays a vital role in ensuring that the programs, services, and facilities provided through The Branch Connection align with the needs and expectations of senior residents.
The Branch Connection serves as the City’s premier senior center, offering a variety of recreational, social, educational, and wellness programs. To maintain relevance and effectiveness, the City Council relies on the Senior Advisory Board to provide insight into community priorities and emerging needs.
The Senior Advisory Board is responsible for reviewing existing and proposed programs, services, and operational initiatives at The Branch Connection. The Board evaluates program participation, quality, and alignment with the City Council’s strategic priorities, particularly those relating to quality of life and community engagement.
Staff continues to support the Board by providing program performance data, community feedback, and budgetary information, enabling informed recommendations.
DISCUSSION:
There are currently three vacancies on the Senior Advisory Board for the following positions:
• Place 2 - Term expires June 2027
• Alternate 1 - Term expires June 2027
• Alternate 2 - Term expires June 2026
Per the City’s policy, Staff have received a total of nine applications for the Senior Advisory Board, three per position, from the following individuals:
1. Marthann Dafft - District 1
2. Wayne Weirich - District 2
3. Marsha Valenti - District 2
4. Everardo Oviedo - District 4
5. Leah Trebert - District 4
6. Barbara O’Brien - District 5
7. Edward Doran - District 5
8. Rick Cathey - District 5
9. Shirley Shaffer - District 5
The Council will discuss filling the three vacant positions on the Senior Advisory Board. Staff will be available to answer any questions the Council may have.
