Title
Consider approving Resolution No. 2022-147 awarding water meter encoder unit price purchase to Republic Meter, Inc. and take appropriate action.
Body
BACKGROUND:
In June 2011, after receiving proposals in accordance with applicable law, the City approved the 2011 Automated Meter Reading Expansion Project to begin the conversion of the City’s water meters to an automated reader system using the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (“AMI”) system by Itron, Inc., a single source vendor.
As part of the 2022-2023 budget approval, the City Council has directed the Public Works Department to move forward with the conversion of all remaining residential meters not already converted to the AMI System. The Council has appropriated $3 million in the FY 2022-2023 budget for the project. To complete the installation of the AMI System on the remaining residential meters, it is necessary to purchase water meter encoders that are compatible with the previously installed encoders, which can only be purchased through Republic Meter, Inc., the only authorized dealer for Itron, Inc. The encoder is the device that attaches to the meter to transmit data from the meter to the system for billing and other use purposes.
DISCUSSION:
Republic Meter, Inc. submitted quote to supply the required encoders in the amount of $328,375 which includes all freight cost. This quote is good until December 30, 2022.
