Body

REQUESTOR:

Finance, Fleet, and Facilities Department

BACKGROUND:

Based on the City Council evaluation of the Municipal Court Judge conducted on December 12, 2024, interim Judge Shannon Willis was named as the presiding judge for a two-year term.

The Council also tasked Judge Willis with interviewing candidates for alternate judge positions and providing recommendations. As a result, Ordinances 3907 and 3908 included on this agenda include the appointments of Cass Calloway and Colette Sallas as alternate judges based on her recommendations. Resumes for both alternate judges are included as attachments to the respective ordinance agenda items. The two-year terms for both the Presiding Judge and the alternate judges will begin on February 1, 2025.

DISCUSSION:

Ordinance No. 3904 establishes the appointment of the Presiding Municipal Court Judge and the compensation for all municipal court judges at $612.50 per court day and $150 per non-court day rate.

POSSIBLE COUNCIL ACTION:

1. I move to approve Ordinance No. 3904 as presented.

2. I move to approve Ordinance No. 3904 with modifications.

3. I move to table the issue for further study or take no action.
