Discuss Bird City update.

Body

BACKGROUND:

Chloe Crumley, Engagement Manager at Audubon Texas, and Karen Carpenter from the Audubon Dallas Chapter will present to the board on Bird City.

Chloe Crumley is the Engagement Manager for Audubon Texas, the state organization of the National Audubon Society.  She leads the ongoing development and implementation of partnerships with the Audubon chapter network on Audubon’s advocacy priorities, conservation programs, and community science efforts.  She oversees Audubon’s Lights Out, Texas! and Bird City campaigns with the goal of making urban spaces more bird-friendly.

Karen Carpenter is a resident of Farmers Branch and an avid birder. She currently serves on the board of the local Audubon Dallas chapter of the National Audubon Society and is a Master Naturalist with the North Texas chapter, which meets at the Brookhaven campus. She is a strong supporter of the Audubon Texas Bird City program and would like to see Farmers Branch join this initiative to create a more bird-friendly community.

From her home in Mercer Crossing-near the Mercer Crossing ponds and John Burke Nature Preserve-Ms. Carpenter has documented more than 150 bird species, including Bald Eagles and other raptors, migrating waterfowl, and songbirds. Her location near the Elm Fork of the Trinity River makes this area of Farmers Branch an important habitat for birds.
