Title

Receive an update on the City’s current grants and grant opportunities.

Body

REQUESTOR:

Councilwoman Tina Bennett-Burton

BACKGROUND:

Grants provide the City with opportunities to secure external funding for projects, programs, equipment, and services that may not otherwise be feasible within existing budget resources. By leveraging federal, state, and regional funding sources, the City can advance strategic priorities, accelerate capital improvements, enhance public services, and reduce the reliance on local tax revenues. Regular reporting on grant activity promotes transparency, ensures accountability for awarded funds, and keeps the City Council informed of funding opportunities and project progress.

The City has a total grant award amount of $36,345,589. Additionally, the City has been conditionally awarded $344,166 in MVCPA grant funding.  The City is also pursuing an additional $10.5 million in grant funding.

Below is a summary of some of the largest grants currently held in the City’s portfolio for FY2026:

American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) - Joya

o                     Obligating the last remaining fund to meet the year-end deadline

Texas Department of Emergency Management (TDEM) - Cooks Creek

o                     All project and programmatic requirements have been met.

o                     Project is officially completed and closed.

Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) - FY 2025

o                     Final financial activities are being coordinated for agency submission.
