Title
Consider approving Resolution No. 2025-194 authorizing the City Manager to execute an Interlocal Agreement with the North Central Texas Council of Governments to provide updated aerial maps and related data, in an amount not to exceed $18,000; and take appropriate action.
Body
REQUESTOR:
Innovation and Technology Department
BACKGROUND:
The City of Farmers Branch uses maps and location data to support many services, including planning new developments, maintaining streets and utilities, and improving emergency response. Having the most current and accurate maps helps City staff work more efficiently and make better decisions.
The North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) offers cities the chance to share the cost of creating these high-quality maps and data through its Spatial Data Cooperative Program. By partnering regionally, Farmers Branch receives the same professional-grade maps used across North Texas, but at a much lower cost than if the City purchased them alone.
DISCUSSION:
Through this agreement, the City will receive updated aerial photography, elevation data, and other detailed mapping information. These resources will help staff identify buildings, streets, sidewalks, driveways, trees, and more with high accuracy.
This information is used daily by multiple City departments, including Planning and Public Works, as well as Emergency Services, and supports better long-term planning for growth and infrastructure.
The cost of this program will not exceed $18,000, covering the City's share of the regional project. The agreement will automatically renew each year unless either party provides notice to end participation.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Budgeted financial impact of $18,000 approved as part of the FY 2025-26 Budget.
DISTRICT:
Citywide
POSSIBLE COUNCIL ACTION:
1. I move to approve 2025-194 as presented.
2. I move to approve 2025-194 with modifications.
3. I move to table the issue for further study or take no action.
