Title

Discuss and provide direction to staff regarding adding a polling location on the west side of the City for the June 13, 2026, Runoff Election.

Body

REQUESTOR:

BACKGROUND:

The City conducted a General Election on May 2, 2026, for the purpose of electing City Councilmembers for District 2 and the office of Mayor.

As no candidate for Mayor received more than 50 percent of the votes cast, a runoff election is required in accordance with applicable election laws. The Runoff Election is scheduled for June 13, 2026.

DISCUSSION:

City staff is requesting policy direction from the City Council regarding the potential addition of a supplemental voting location on the west side of the City for the upcoming runoff election. The City’s primary polling location has traditionally been the Farmers Branch Manske Library, which is centrally located and has historically served as the City’s primary election site.

Should the City Council determine that an additional west-side voting location would enhance accessibility and voter convenience, the Keenan Service Center, as well as the Senlac Service Center are available for consideration. As a City-owned facility, these  sites offers sufficient parking, accessible indoor accommodations, and operational flexibility to support election activities.

The addition of a west-side voting location may improve geographic accessibility for residents, support voter participation, and provide added convenience for the community during the runoff election.

FISCAL IMPACT:

There is no charge from Dallas County for the use of a public facility. The operational cost to add the Keenan or Senlac Service Center to our election services contract would be an additional approximate $16,000, total cost to conduct voting at the Manske Library, and an additional location would be approximately $32,000.
