Title

Receive a presentation from staff on establishing a centralized permitting process for Special Events.

Body

REQUESTOR:

Community Services Department

BACKGROUND:

To improve efficiency and enhance service delivery, the City is establishing a centralized permitting process for special events. In response to a growing number of events requiring coordination from multiple departments, this streamlined approach will ensure public safety and compliance with City regulations. It also addresses the diverse requirements of multiple departments, such as street closures, large tent installations, and food sales.

DISCUSSION:

The proposed special event permitting system will offer a centralized application process, providing a single point of contact that connects applicants with all relevant City departments. This streamlined approach will reduce redundancy, improve interdepartmental coordination, and enhance the overall efficiency of event approvals.

The ordinance will establish a $50 processing and permitting fee. Additional permits may still be required from individual departments, depending on the scope of the event. The primary objective is to simplify the application process for both event organizers and City staff.

To implement this system, the City will amend the Code of Ordinances to create a new section within Chapter 14, “Amusements and Entertainment.”

FISCAL IMPACT:

Increased permit revenue.

DISTRICT:

Citywide
