Consider adopting Ordinance No. 3946 amending Chapter 22, Article IV of the Farmers Branch Code of Ordinances by adopting the 2023 edition of the National Electrical Code with certain additions, deletions, and amendments; and take appropriate action.

BACKGROUND:
The City has been enforcing the 2020 National Electrical Code (NEC) since August 2021. Staff’s proposed adoption of the 2023 NECC maintains alignment with current industry standards, best practices, and regional code consistency through the North Texas Council of Governments (NTCOG).
DISCUSSION:
The Council will discuss updating to the most current edition, the 2023 NEC. Some notable changes to the 2023 NEC are:
1. The receptacles’ section on countertop and work surfaces is deleted in its entirety to allow for design options.
2. Adding a requirement for emergency disconnects to be installed in one and two-family dwelling units.
3. Informational notes added to provide more positive options for enforcement and approval of unlisted equipment.
4. Integrity of electrical equipment and connections added and amended to better define a plan of action for equipment that is compromised prior to restoring service.
