Title

Discuss and review Board and Commission appointments and reappointments for 2026-27 and conduct a slate list exercise.

Body

REQUESTOR:

City Council

BACKGROUND:

Boards and commissions play an important role in local government by providing citizen involvement in the decision-making process and serving as advisory bodies to the City Council. These volunteer groups bring diverse perspectives, professional expertise, and community insight to matters affecting the City. By reviewing programs, proposals, and other matters within their respective areas of responsibility, boards and commissions help inform Council decisions, promote transparency, and strengthen public trust in municipal government. Their participation enhances community engagement and helps ensure that City initiatives reflect the needs and interests of residents and stakeholders.

The City Council conducts annual Board and Commission appointments to fill vacancies and consider reappointments for eligible members. The City Secretary’s Office received 29 new applications to fill 25 vacancies. Existing board members currently serving on Boards and Commissions eligible to serve another term were not required to submit applications.

DISCUSSION:

The City Council will review applications and create a slate list of applicants to be considered for appointments at the July 21, 2026, City Council meeting.
