BACKGROUND:
The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) is administering the Water Supply and Infrastructure Grant Program, which provides funding for eligible municipalities to support critical water supply and infrastructure improvements. This competitive grant program is intended to help communities improve water system reliability, replace aging infrastructure, reduce water loss, and enhance long-term water resilience. By securing funding through this program, Texas cities can invest in essential water infrastructure projects that promote public health, support economic growth, and strengthen the sustainability of their water systems.
The Water Supply and Infrastructure Grant Program has approximately $1.038 billion available for statewide distribution. Approximately $142 million is available to eligible municipalities with a service area population of 10,001-150,000. Each eligible municipality in this category may request up to $21 million per project. Funding awards are based on several factors, including community need and annual median household income.
The Public Works Department has identified three projects in the City's upcoming Capital Improvement Program (CIP) that meet the eligibility criteria for this grant opportunity.
The first project is the Valley View Lane Transmission Line from Templeton Trail to 3725 Valley View Lane, with an estimated cost of $1,443,000. The second project is the Valley View Lane Transmission Line from the I-35 service road to Keenan Bridge Road, with an estimated cost of $2,692,000. The third project is the Garden Brook Road/Oakbrook Parkway Transmission Line from Webb Chapel Road to Marsh Lane, with an estimated cost of $2,308,000.
