BACKGROUND:
The City of Farmers Branch continues to advance its commitment to enhancing public spaces by providing high-quality amenities, promoting community engagement, and ensuring equitable access to recreation across all neighborhoods.

Building on the approach used for Mercer Park, the Parks and Recreation Department conducted a community engagement program to better understand local priorities for Squire Park's redevelopment.

On September 16, staff presented proposed amenities and associated costs to the City Council during a Study Session. Various park amenities were discussed during the session. Next steps in developing the park include securing a consultant to design the project based on all stakeholders' input. During this development process, the consultant will work with the City Council, Parks and Recreation Board, and staff to review all amenity choices, including a possible splash pad, and provide options for consideration for placement in the park. Ultimately, the City Council will determine the final design and budget for the park.

DISCUSSION:
The scope of work for this project includes developing a Schematic Design and Construction Document Drawing Package to support the bidding and construction phases of the park improvements.

The design program, based on community feedback, will include the following elements:
* Shade structures
* Park shelter
* Playgrounds for ages 2-5 and 5-12
* Basketball court
* Water play element
* Parking
* Walking paths
* Site furnishings
* Drinking fountain
* Lighting
