Title

Receive a presentation on the LEED for Cities designation

Body

BACKGROUND:

The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) operates the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification program. The LEED program is a widely used rating system for green buildings. The program has expanded to include a rating system for cities. The LEED for Cities program helps cities track progress towards sustainability objectives and benchmark their performance. More than 300 cities have utilized the LEED for Cities program.

The USGBC is seeking interest from Texas cities to participate in an accelerator program to help communities get certified with the LEED for Cities program. The accelerator will also waive the cost of the registration.

Staff will provide an overview of the program and the committee will discuss benefits/drawbacks of participation.
