Title

Discuss an amendment to the Code of Ordinances related to the Parking Regulations ordinance.

Body

REQUESTOR:

Mayor Terry Lynne and Councilman Roger Neal

BACKGROUND:

Staff is providing an update on the parking ordinance in response to concerns regarding enforcing oversized vehicles on private property in residential areas. Currently, the City does not have regulations governing oversized vehicles on private property. However, staff have observed a noticeable increase in the number of recreational vehicles, trailers, and commercial vehicles in these areas.

DISCUSSION:

A review of the existing ordinance and research on how peer municipalities handle oversized vehicle regulations was conducted. Many municipalities enforce such ordinances, effectively reducing vehicle overcrowding in residential areas. The staff is proposing amendments to our current parking ordinance, including enforcement of oversized vehicles and prohibiting certain vehicles on private property in residential zones. This update will allow enforcement of any vehicle in excess of 1 ½ tons and prohibit certain vehicles (any vehicle in excess of nine feet in width or 30 feet in length) from parking on private property in residential areas.
