BACKGROUND:
On February 20, 2024, Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Omar Roman requested a report on the status of multi-family developments within the City of Farmers Branch. Consequently, staff compiled calculations encompassing completed, under-construction, and proposed multi-family projects alongside data about single-family residences throughout the city. These datasets offer a foundation for comparing the number of multi-family units with single homes, which will aid discussions on the proportion of each type of housing in our City.
These proportions reflect the City’s different urban and suburban characteristics. For instance, more multi-family units indicate our denser urban areas or a focus on affordable housing. In contrast, a higher rate of single-family homes might indicate our City’s suburban component.
