Consider approving Resolution No. 2024-058 authorizing the City Manager to purchase a trenching machine from Witch Equipment Company, Inc. through Sourcewell Cooperative Purchasing Agreement in the amount of $56,041; and take appropriate action.

BACKGROUND:
The Parks and Recreation Department manages and maintains parks within the City. The terrain in each park varies, and currently, staff maintain certain areas on foot, which requires more time and employees. The trenching machine will assist with getting to those fall zone areas in playgrounds, which include, but are not limited to, trails and medians.
The FY 2023-24 Fixed Asset budget allocates $56,000 for the purchase of a trenching machine for the Parks and Recreation Department. The additional funds of $41 will come from the Fleet and Facilities budget.
DISCUSSION:
The Parks and Recreation Department currently does not have a trenching machine. A trenching machine has many uses but will mainly be used to install fibrous material in the fall zone areas in playgrounds. The trenching machine is a lighter and smaller unit that maneuvers around playground equipment and will also be used in the City’s medians. The trenching machine will also be used at the John Burke Nature Preserve to maintain the decomposed granite pathways.
