BACKGROUND:
Jim Stephens began his employment with the Farmers Branch Police Department on February 1, 1985.  He came from the University of Texas at Arlington Police Department, where he served as a police officer for four years.  He has previously worked in the Communications and the Criminal Investigations Division and is currently working in the Patrol Division.
 
Officer Stephens was one of the original four officers from the city to be sent to Northwestern University's Traffic Institute in Evanston, Illinois for crime scene training.  These officers formed the Police Department's Crime Scene Unit in 1997, and he has served as a crime scene technician since that time.
 
Officer Stephens has an Associates of Applied Science degree in Criminal Justice from El Centro College in Dallas.  He holds a Master Peace Officer license from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement.
 
Officer Stephens and his wife Lori reside in The Colony.  They have two adult sons, John Riley and James.
