INTRODUCTION BY THE MAYOR:
On behalf of the City Council, I am honored to recognize the Police Department's Citizens on Patrol volunteers and their commitment to serving our community. Let me introduce Police Chief Kevin McCoy to announce these well-deserved recognitions.
BACKGROUND:
We are here this evening to honor and give thanks to the members of the Police Department's Citizens on Patrol (COP) volunteers as a whole, to recognize those members who obtained certain volunteer hour thresholds and/or longevity hallmarks, and to celebrate the Volunteer of the Year.
For the calendar year 2024, the COPs logged 7,082 hours of volunteer service to the police department. While this work is done on behalf of the police department, it is ultimately for the benefit of the community in which they live. These hours taken collectively would equal the work of 3.5 full-time employees and were spent on tasks that would otherwise have to be done by a police officer or another member of the police department's staff.
Thank you to everyone who selflessly spent their time to help us better serve this community.
The Presidential Volunteer Service Award is a national award that recognizes individuals, groups, and organizations for their commitment to volunteer service, acknowledging the significant impact of volunteers on communities.
These prestigious awards are based on the number of hours of volunteer service and come in the form of Bronze, Silver, and Gold pins. Bronze for 100-249 hours, Silver for 250-499 hours, and Gold for 500 + hours.
