REQUESTOR:
Fire Department
INTRODUCTION BY THE MAYOR:
On behalf of the City Council, I am pleased to designate the month of October 2026 as “Fire Prevention Month” in Farmers Branch.
BACKGROUND:
Throughout October, the Farmers Branch Fire Department will actively engage with the community to promote fire safety awareness. Firefighters will visit neighborhoods to educate residents on fire prevention measures, the importance of fire safety at home, ensuring smoke alarms are functional, and the importance of using, charging, and recycling lithium-ion batteries safely.
As part of this initiative, the Branch Brigade Firefighter “Edu-tainers” will visit local schools to teach fire safety to students from pre-kindergarten through fifth grade. The goal is to empower young students to help their families make their homes safer.
To further reinforce this year’s National Fire Protection Association’s theme, “CHARGE INTO FIRE SAFETY TM: SAFE CHARGING IS A SUPERPOWER,” the Fire Department also sponsors the 29th Annual Fire Prevention Poster Contest, specifically for third-grade students in Farmers Branch elementary schools. This contest encourages children to creatively express their understanding of fire safety and reminds us of the importance of using, charging, and recycling lithium-ion batteries safely to reduce the risk of fires in homes and communities.
This proclamation officially declares October 2026 as “Fire Prevention Month” in the City of Farmers Branch, Texas.
