Title
Consider approving Resolution No. 2022-142 to name the former hockey rink converted into a turf area to Oran Good Turf; and take appropriate action.
Body
BACKGROUND:
Oran Good Park, located on Tom Field Rd., recently housed a small concrete hockey rink. In May of 2022, the Parks and Recreation Board approved a plan to renovate the rink to feature a synthetic turf soccer field. In August of 2022, City Council formally approved the contract for the conversion. Construction is currently underway, with an expected re-opening scheduled for the end of 2022.
DISCUSSION:
The hockey rink at Oran Good Park was on the City-Wide Parks, Recreation and Open Space Master Plan to repair in FY2021. Parks staff reviewed the repairs needed and usage of the space and determined that the community’s current use was primarily as a practice soccer field. To better serve the community, the asphalt hockey rink has been converted into the city’s first synthetic turf soccer field.
This item supports the City’s core value to provide attractive, unique, and connected spaces for community interaction.
The Parks and Recreation Board discussed possible names for the park and has recommended Oran Good Turf. As this field sits within Oran Good Park, the intent was to keep the name and designate the turf area at Oran Good Park.
