Title
Discuss a potential amendment to the Short-Term Rental Ordinance No. 3575, Section 26-503 in the Code of Ordinances.
Body
REQUESTOR:
Councilwoman Tina Bennett-Burton
BACKGROUND:
On February 4, 2025, the Code Enforcement Division presented updates to the Short-Term Rental program to the City Council. Currently, the City charges $120 per year for the license. During the discussion, staff were asked to research other cities' fees to assess the appropriateness of the license cost. Staff were also asked about the potential of raising the hotel/motel tax for short-term rentals only.
DISCUSSION:
Staff will present research from other cities on the cost of their short-term rental licensing and seek guidance from the City Council on the City's license fee going forward. Per the City's attorneys, the hotel/motel tax cannot be separated between hotels and short-term rentals. State statutes cap this City’s hotel/motel tax fund and would require a ballot measure to increase it.
The Host Compliance update with ESRI address integration is still underway and should be implemented in the next few months. This integration will assist Code Enforcement in gaining compliance with unpermitted short-term rentals.
