Receive an update on Squire Park Public Outreach Efforts.
Body
REQUESTOR:
Parks and Recreation Department
BACKGROUND:
The City of Farmers Branch Parks and Recreation Department planned feedback from residents on public park amenities in one of the City’s districts to better understand the community’s needs and priorities. A similar approach was taken with Mercer Park. This outreach effort is part of a broader initiative to improve park spaces and ensure all neighborhoods have access to quality amenities that support recreation, health, and community engagement. Input from residents has helped guide future improvements and ensure park investments are responsive to local expectations, used to their fullest potential, and reflect the needs of neighborhoods.
Staff initiated a public outreach program for Squire Park to gather feedback on park amenities and design. This program ran from April 15th to June 27th. The public had several opportunities to participate by taking an online survey, attending an online meeting, or joining in-person meetings held at Vivian Field Middle School and Squire Park.
DISCUSSION:
The public outreach efforts yielded 149 survey responses and a total of 99 participants across all three meetings. Participation numbers were based on sign-in sheets, so it's possible one participant represented an entire household. Specifically, there were 13 participants at the online meeting, 11 participants at the Vivian Field Middle School meeting, and 75-plus individuals signed in at the meeting held at the park.
The feedback consistently indicated that a walking path, splash pad, and playground upgrade are of collective interest to the participants.
Staff is seeking direction regarding the next steps based on the data collected. This would entail moving forward with obtaining design services to create a concept plan for the redevelopment of the park.
