Title

Consider approving Resolution No. 2024-197 authorizing the agreement with Life Scan for wellness and fitness exams for Farmers Branch Fire Department staff in compliance with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) in the amount of $74,617.20; and take appropriate action.

Body

REQUESTOR:

Fire Department

BACKGROUND:

In FY 2024-2025, the Fire Department budgeted $74,617.20 for ninety-four (94) National Association Fire Protection (NFPA) 1582 compliant wellness and fitness exams for the Farmers Branch Fire Department staff. This is an increase of $7,823.20 from FY 2023-2024 due to vendor price increases and the addition of three new full-time employees.

DISCUSSION:

The NFPA 1582 physicals are comprehensive exams and fitness tests for Fire Department employees to ensure they are physically well and capable of doing their job. The standard’s purpose is to reduce the risk of fire service occupational morbidity and mortality while improving the safety and efficiency of firefighters and addressing medical issues of both candidates and incumbents.

A candidate's medical evaluation includes a medical history, examination, and any laboratory tests required to detect physical or medical condition(s) that could adversely affect their ability to safely perform the essential job tasks outlined in NFPA 1582.

Life Scan has completed these exams in recent years. For continuity of care, it is recommended that the same vendor be used.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Budgeted Financial Impact $74,617.20.

DISTRICT:

Citywide
