Consider approving Ordinance No. 4002 canvassing the results of the May 2, 2026, general election, declaring the successful candidate for District 2, ordering a runoff election for the seat of Mayor to be held on June 13, 2026, and establishing the date, time, and polling places for the runoff election; and take appropriate action.

BACKGROUND:
The City of Farmers Branch conducted a General Election on May 2, 2026, for the purpose of electing a City Councilmember representing District 2 and the office of Mayor.
Dallas County Elections administered the election in accordance with applicable state election laws and procedures. Following the completion of the official canvass process, the election results were certified for consideration by the City Council.
DISCUSSION:
Ordinance No. 4002 formally canvases the results of the May 2, 2026, General Election, declares the official outcome for the District 2 City Council race, and calls for a Runoff Election for the office of Mayor to be held on June 13, 2026, in coordination with Dallas County Elections.
The certified results for the District 2 City Council race are as follows:
• District 2 - City Councilmember: Tina Bennett-Burton received 61.75 percent of the votes cast.
Having received a majority of the votes cast, Tina Bennett-Burton is declared duly elected as the District 2 City Councilmember for the City of Farmers Branch.
No candidate in the Mayoral race received more than 50 percent of the votes cast. In accordance with applicable State Election requirements and the City Charter, a runoff election is therefore required. The runoff election for the office of Mayor is scheduled to be held on June 13, 2026.
