BACKGROUND:
Boards, committees, and commissions serve an important advisory role in supporting the City Council's policy-making process. As part of that role, subcommittees provide a structured mechanism for conducting focused research, evaluating alternatives, engaging stakeholders, and developing recommendations on specific topics prior to consideration by the full board, committee, or commission.
The use of subcommittees has been a longstanding practice within the City of Farmers Branch and has supported a variety of Council priorities, special projects, community programs, and event-planning efforts. In particular, the Events Subcommittee was established through City Council action as part of the City's board and committee framework, reflecting Council's recognition that certain initiatives may benefit from more focused review and planning.
Currently, five of the City's eleven active boards, committees, and commissions utilize subcommittees to support their work:

? Historical Preservation and Restoration Board
? Senior Advisory Board
? Arts & Culture Committee
? Parks & Recreation Board
Existing subcommittees address a variety of subjects, including sustainability initiatives, cultural programming, special events, historical preservation efforts, strategic planning, and park-related projects. In addition to board and committee members, several subcommittees include resident volunteers who contribute subject matter expertise, assist with project planning, and support implementation efforts.
