Title
Consider accepting the ‘You Are Beautiful’ public art piece donation; and take appropriate action.
Body
BACKGROUND:
The ‘You Are Beautiful’ campaign began in 2002 as a sticker that spreads a hopeful message through public art. Matthew Hoffman, a Chicago-based artist, is the creator of the ‘You Are Beautiful’ campaign. The goal of this initiative is be a positive force and transmit a simple idea: Everyone deserves to feel good with who they are.
This particular design of the ‘You Are Beautiful’ piece is a limited-edition 4’ x 16’ installation. In fact, this piece is so limited that only one per state is issued.
Farmers Branch resident, Sarah LeClaire, secured Texas’s ‘You Are Beautiful’ art piece and would like to donate it to the City of Farmers Branch.
The value of the donated piece is $3,500.
DISCUSSION:
The Farmers Branch Arts & Culture Committee has viewed images of the art and recommends placement of the piece at The Grove at Mustang Station. This location is highly visible, serves as a great photo op during special events, and is within the newly-establish cultural arts district.
The Parks and Recreation Department team has been consulted on the project and is equipped to handle installation of the piece.
