Receive an update on sustainability awards received by the City of Farmers Branch
Body
BACKGROUND:
The City of Farmers Branch has recently received multiple awards related to sustainability. The Committee has provided immeasurable support in providing these recognitions for the City.
The City received two awards from the organization, Texan by Nature.
The Texan by Nature 20 award is an effort to recognize the best work in conservation coming from Texas based businesses and organizations. Texan by Nature evaluates over 2,000 organizations using public sources and ultimately selected the 25 most impressive organizations to honor with the 2025 Texan by Nature 20 award.
Texan by Nature Project Certification provides Texas organizations with recognition of meaningful conservation efforts. The Water Conservation Rebate Program was recommended through the Sustainability Committee and its implementation saves approximately 980,000 gallons of water annually.
The City also received the SolSmart Bronze designation. The SolSmart program is funded by the U.S. Department of Energy and recognizes local governments who have adopted best practices that make it easier and more affordable for residents and businesses to adopt solar. Achieving SolSmart designation was listed as a recommended action within the Sustainability Plan.
