Title
Discuss an amendment to the Code of Ordinances related to parking regulations for oversized vehicles in residential areas.

Body
REQUESTOR:
Mayor Terry Lynne
Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Roger Neal

BACKGROUND:
On April 1, 2025, and April 29, 2025, Code Enforcement presented a proposal to amend the parking regulations by adding a section for oversized vehicles. On May 29, 2025, at the Mayor's Town Hall, public feedback was gathered regarding large vehicles.

The City currently has no regulations regarding oversized vehicles parked on private property. However, there has been a significant increase in the number of recreational vehicles, trailers, and commercial vehicles in residential neighborhoods. At the April City Council meetings, staff was asked to explore the possibility of implementing restrictions on RVs, boats, box trucks, and other vehicles, including reducing the allowable length of vehicles, and establishing a grace period for residents.

DISCUSSION:
A review of the current ordinance and examination of how neighboring municipalities regulate oversized vehicles has been conducted. Many municipalities effectively enforce such ordinances to reduce vehicle overcrowding in residential areas. Proposed updates to the ordinance include the following items:

o Prohibit any vehicle that exceeds 1.5 tons
o Prohibit vehicles such as RVs, boats, box trucks, tow trucks, dump trucks, trailers
o Prohibit any other vehicles that exceed nine feet in width or 21 feet in length from parking on private property in residential areas

The City will communicate this change through social media and website postings. Code Enforcement will also directly work with residents. There is a proposed 24-month grace period to inform residents of the new regulations...
