Title
Conduct Sunset Review of Boards and Committees.
Body
BACKGROUND:
Ordinance No. 3563, later amended by Ordinance No. 3567 to include the Arts and Culture Committee, created the Sunset Review Provision for the purpose of allowing a pathway for the City Council to periodically review and evaluate the need for specific boards and committees. This ordinance requires a sunset review in years ending in "0" and "5". It stipulates that the following boards/committees will terminate on June 30 without further action, unless the City Council has affirmatively voted that the board or committee shall continue in existence until the next review date. Those boards and committees include the following:
• Historical Preservation and Restoration Board
• Farmers Branch Manske Library Board
• Parks and Recreation Board
• Arts and Culture Committee
• Senior Advisory Board
• Sustainability Committee
The Boards and Committees present their annual updates to the City Council every year. The City Council Board Workshop printed packet includes a copy of each presentation for the boards listed above, as well as a rating sheet, a list of board accomplishments, and a current roster for review consideration.
No formal action will be taken during the work session. The City Council will review each board and determine whether it will continue beyond June 30, 2025. A Resolution with the actions recommended by the City Council will be brought forward to the June 17, 2025, City Council meeting.
