Title

Receive a Year-in-Review update from the Library Board.

Body

REQUESTOR:

City Council

BACKGROUND:

The Library Board supports the Farmers Branch Manske Library’s mission to provide educational resources, promote literacy, and encourage lifelong learning throughout the community. Through its work, the Board provides valuable input on library services, programs, and initiatives that improve accessibility, encourage community engagement, and meet residents' evolving needs.

The Manske Library Board is an advisory board that is tasked with reviewing and making recommendations regarding the City’s library programs, assisting with City events, and making recommendations to the City Council on needed Library items.

DISCUSSION:

The Library Board will provide the City Council with a year-in-review update.

Future goals of the Library Board include:

•                     Assist in the establishment of the Friends of Manske Library Group.

•                     Increase Advisory Boards and Committees partnerships.

•                     Increase public outreach.

•                     Continue to explore ways to reach the underserved populations.

FISCAL IMPACT:

None.

DISTRICT:
Citywide

POSSIBLE COUNCIL ACTION:

The City Council may provide general policy direction to the Library Board for the upcoming year, emphasizing educational opportunities, promoting literacy, and initiatives that enhance accessibility, encourage community engagement, and ultimately respond to the evolving needs of residents. This direction would help align the Board's advisory efforts with Council's strategic priorities while preserving the distinction between policy recommendations and the administration of City programs and events.
