Title

Discuss and review the Board Appointment Guidelines and conduct a slate list exercise for annual Board and Commission appointments and reappointments.

Body

BACKGROUND:

The City Council conducts annual Board and Commission appointments to fill vacancies and consider reappointments for eligible members. The City Secretary’s Office received 20 new applications to fill 13 vacancies. Existing board members currently serving on Boards and Commissions eligible to serve another term were not required to submit applications. The City Council will review applications and create a slate list of applicants to be considered for appointments.

The Council may review the current guidelines to determine if amendments are needed to facilitate a timelier process in filling vacant positions. The current guidelines are outlined below:

Actively recruit twice per year (April - May) and (November - December) to build an eligible applicant list that can roll to the next active appointment phase

Council to review board vacancies when there is a combination of three vacancies on various boards, or two or more vacancies on one board

At a minimum, three applications received for each board vacancy before bringing to the Council for consideration

DISCUSSION:

No official action will be taken at this meeting. The City Council will consider annual appointments from the slate list created at the work session at its June 17, 2025, meeting.
